Tired of your boring white player name? No problem. COD2 allows you to add color
to your player name using special character codes. Unfortunately, they are not exactly intuitive
No sweat. We have your back.
Use the controls that appear below to create a colorized version of your COD2 player name.
After you have created the version that you like, enter the same text value
into COD2 as your multiplayer name. You may also cut and paste the value
into your COD2 multiplayer config file or into your All-Seeing Eye
game configuration settings. Additional help appears beneath the COD2
screenshot.
By default, COD2 player names appear in white text. As shown above, however, you can
add color to your COD2 player name by adding special "color code" values within your name.
Each color code value is in the form ^n, where n is a number between zero and seven.
Each number is associated with a different color, as shown in the following table.

When creating your player name, you should also consider the following:
- Player names begin with white unless you start the player name with a
color code.
- COD2 will ignore the black color code if it appears at the beginning
of your player name. You cannot start your player name with a black character.
- Black portions of your player name will be obscured in many parts of the
game, including when you are listed on the scoreboard. If you are proud of your name and clan,
it's probably best to avoid black text.
- Many servers (including the FBI Clan's servers) have additional policies
barring the usage of profanity, offensive content, or "advertising" in player names. URLs included
in a player name are normally considered to be advertising. If a server admin asks you to change your name
for one of these reasons, do so without hesitation...or risk being kicked/banned.
- While you can copy and paste the player name created on this page into
All-Seeing Eye (or other game browsers), you cannot paste it into the "player name" field inside of the COD2
multiplayer options. Instead, you will have to retype the name (with color codes) into this
field.
- Alternatively, you can paste the player name directly into your COD2 multiplayer config file
so that you do not need to retype the name in COD2. Your COD2 multiplayer config file should be located
in the "C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 2\main\players\<your name>\" directory and
is named "config_mp.cfg". Open this file with any text editor (e.g., notepad) and search for the
line that starts with "seta name". The value between the quotes on the line that starts with this value
is your current player name. Simply replace the value with the player name copied from this page,
save and close the file, launch COD2...and start slingin' some lead...with your newly colored name.
